"God" Responds to Lawsuit

Image Swiped from CBSnews.com / Click to Go VisitYesterday I told you about State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha filing a lawsuit against God.

Today, God responded.

John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County District Court in Omaha stated a filing from God "... miraculously appeared on the counter. It just all of a sudden was here - poof!"

"God" claims that Chambers' point that anybody can sue anybody simply doesn't apply in His case. Earthly laws cannot be applied to Him, and the court lacks jurisdiction. "God" goes on to state that blaming Him for human oppression ans suffering misses the point.

"I created man and woman with free will and next to the promise of immortal life, free will is My greatest gift to you," according to the response filing.

I wonder if the Almighty will pull in the Devil as a material witness? Or, would he be too much a hostile witness?

Common Scents

A woman in Detroit is suing the city over co-workers' use of strong perfumes and air deoderizers. (Read it here!)

This story comes at a great time because I was going to revisit a previous post from a week ago when I wrote a mild rant about strong scents in public places. In that rant, I mentioned a poll you could take in my blog's sidebar.

The poll question read, "Should Strong Perfumes, Colognes, and Hand Lotions be Banned From Use in Restaurants and Work Places?" There were 9 votes total; 6 for banning (66%), 2 for not banning (22%), and 1 undecided (11%). And, yes I know there is a percent missing, gimme a break this isn't advanced math I'm doing here. ~.^

Now, I should have reworded that from Ban to Restrict. I don't think actually banning the use of personal scents is a reasonable response. But the scent wearer (user) should also exercise some common sense on how much to wear.

An anonymous comment on that post claimed the scent users have a right to personal expression.

To an extent, I agree with that statement. people should have a right to express themselves. Of course, obvious limitations to society and laws need to be observed. I may like walking around my house naked, but my kids don't need to see that, nor my neighbors across the street who happen to glance through my unshuttered, open picture window. I'm also pretty sure my cats don't particularly care for it either. Sure, they put on a good show of ignoring it, but I hear them sniggering to each other about it later.

My opinion is that your right to personal expression stops at my personal space. If I can smell you from three or four feet away, strongly and clearly, then you are invading my personal space, and you should move (or maybe wash it off). Perfume and other scents should be a personal thing. A person should have to be right up near you, within your personal space, to smell it.

Unless you are stating that your personal space extends around yourself in a substantially larger radius than others?

I consider it rude for someone to use a scented lotion, or to spritz perfume, while in a public place. Especially an eating establishment, or a grocery store.

Would they like it if I walked by their table and ... farted?

Hey, it's a natural bodily function. God created the ability for the human body to release excess gas. Perfume is a man-made substance, not natural. But, if I stood there and played the Flight of the Bumblebee with my Tushie Tuba, I'd be tossed out of the restaraunt; maybe even arrested.

Why? Because it is rude, offensive, and fairly gross ... by society's standards (and my own). Is not the stench of floral assault not as rude, offensive, and gross? I don't want to smell it at my table, let alone taste it! Yuck! But, perhaps farting is my way of expressing myself?

No? I don't think that excuse flies for either circumstance.

The above reminds me of a true story. It takes place long before smoking was banned in restaurants. I was maybe 16, so this had to be in the mid to late '80's.

My mother, my sister's mother-in-law, and myself were at one of our favorite pizza joints. Seating was in booths down a very long room, about 15 booths to a side; six seaters, eight if you were thin or very friendly. A wall ran along one side of the booths, with a six foot high barrier wall along the other. It was topped with various plants and a bronze runner bar.

We were seated, about half-way though our meal, when a group of five men entered and asked (almost demanded) that we move because this was their traditional booth. Of course we said no, there were about twenty or so other booths available for them to sit at and we had already begun eating. They cursed at us and sat directly behind us. Three on the bench directly behind my mother and myself, two across the table from those three.

Immediately they all lit up cigarettes and cigars. Annoying, but not much we could do other than move. Even though my mother has breathing problems compounded by smoke, she was adamant about not moving.

Then the "gentlemen" began holding their lit cigarettes (and one cigar) over their shioulders. Smoke began to billow into our eating space. We politely asked them if they would stop holding their cigarettes like that. They laughed and started to turn their heads and blow the smoke at us. One guy even tapped his ashes onto my mothers neck.

We complained to the restaraunt owner, who we knew as my sister had once dated his son in high school. Dimitri, the owner, apologized, and gave us our meal free, but said he couldn't tell them to stop because he didn't want trouble with those men. I got the picture. Yeah, Dimitri's place was THAT sorta pizza joint. >_>

We got the rest of the food packed up in boxes and my mother and my sister's in-law left, walking down the small hallway to the exit, the six foot barrier wall high wall to their right. As they passed where the men were you could hear them laugh harder and call us all sorts of cruel and nasty names. I was at the front counter, talking to Dimitri.

About this time I saw their waitress bring over their orders.

I said goodbye to Dimitri, casually grabbed the lid off a very full floor ashtray next to the counter, walked down the hallway, and as I got next to the Darwinian rejects' booth, I upended the entire ashtray over the wall and onto them, their food, and the huge pitcher of beer they were drinking.

Then I ran like hell.

The next time we ate at Dimitri's place, he said absolutely nothing to me about it, but I did get a free piece of baklava, "just because". ~.^

So, the next time someone sits near me in a restaurant and whips out the lotion or perfume, I think I'm ordering up a mess of baked beans.

Ah, I smell victory!

Quickie (No Farting, Promise)

Just a real quick post. No videos, no pretty pictures, no farts ...

I planned to post a recap of yesterday's events leading up to my breathing issue and hoarseness, but after I got home from taking the kids to school, I pretty much crashed out until about 1:30 PM. I woke up feeling not much better, but called Tek in the hospital to talk to him.

Tek is doing better. BP is still down, which is good. He is tired and worn out, but is on a CPAP machine to help him breath without sleep apnea at night. He says it is great! We spoke for about 15 minutes, but you could hear him weakening and begin to have trouble breathing. Luckily a nurse showed up for some nurse-y stuff and it gave the opportunity to break off the call so he could rest. (Of course, when he gets home and catches up on his blog reading he'll see this, but ... ~.^)

So there you have it. If my chest is still tight and my breathing raspy, I may not blog tomorrow or Sunday. I've been thinking of going to a weekday schedule anyhow. We'll see.

Take care everyone, and remember to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. You never know when something might take them from you.

eBay - Weird Al

The supposed highest bidder on the General Lee car from "The Dukes of Hazard" has welshed on his record, nearly $10 million bid.

I wonder how many bids turn out to be fake on eBay? Probably as many items posted for sale.

I admit I'm scared to buy off eBay. Even though I know people who buy and sell through eBay with no problems at all, I am still petrified to do it.

Anywho, Weird Al has a great song about eBay and someone made a video out of it. So, here you go! ~.^

UPDATE: Tek should be going home Friday. He'll be on medications and have some drastic changes to lifestyle to make (food, exercise, stress, etc.), but for now it doesn't appear as if any surgeries or other procedures are needed. Tek's wife wanted to thank everyone for their prayers for strength during this crisis and for guiding the doctors during the tests. Prayer for continued improvement and strength is still appreciated.

RapCatRapCat has released his first music video!

You remember RapCat? The fast food feline with the controversial clothes?

Well, it's been a month and I know how short the Information Nation's memory is, so you can jog your memory about the caterwauling kitty at my previous article.

Done? Good.

I bet you want to see RapCat's music video debut. You know you wanna ...

I've Been WoWed!

Knock, Knock ... Addiction CallingI took the plunge today. I held my breath and dove into the MMORPG juggernaut that is World of Warcraft.

A friend in my Guild Wars guild gave me a 10-day free trial code. She did so because several of the Rebel Dragons have been trying it out, a few have defected, and she understood my flagging interest in Guild Wars. Plus, if I sign up, she gets a free month of gameplay.

Pay-to-play is the main detractor to my involvement in WoW. I am unsure if our budget can handle the monthly fees. Not that the fees are staggering ... $14.99 a month is not too over the top. Though, when budgets are tight, any extra cash layout hurts, especially recurring ones.

We don't live frugally. We eat out quite often, go to movies, add to our staggering DVD collection (300+), and do other fun things. (The Bay Area Renaissance Festival, for example). I'll have to make choices on what to cut back on.

Until then, I have 10 days to enjoy the cartoony fantasy world of Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, and Undead.

I spent around 3 hours downloading the game last night. It was 3.14 GB. The download sped wasn't too bad. I think I was getting around 1 MB every 4-5 seconds. WoW uses a peer-to-peer process for their Downloader. My firewall had a little trouble at first, then it began to chug the data through easily enough.

While the game streaming into the hungry computer, I used most of that time to read about the game on the World of Warcraft website. Tons of useful info there. Enough that when I felt comfortable entering the game world without an actual manual. (I'm a firm believer in RTFM). It also was organized very nicely with beginner's sections and in depth FAQs.

After the download was complete, I began the actual install. This took around 20 minutes.

Then I created an Account. Even though it was a Free Trial, Blizzard wanted my credit card info. They claim no charges will be made. I certainly hope not.

Next, it time to Log In!

Whereupon it told me it needed to download an update and closed out of the game.

A 300+ MB update followed, taking about 15 minutes.

I was ready to play! I logged in again.

Another update!

Cripes, you'd think their patcher would read what you needed and send it all at once, much as other games do. But, nope!

A third update followed my subsequent attempt to log in, and thankfully it was the last one, allowing me to get in game and start playing!

Make Any Milk Jokes and I Stomp You!I created a Tauren Druid named Moolasses. Sweet, slow, and just a little sticky. ~.^

It's going to take some time for me to get used to the controls. They are not so far off from most other MMORPGs, but they are different. I keep running places i do not want to, or backing off from my foes instead of attacking. There is a nice, in-game tool tip system which has helped quite a bit.

I've played a little over an hour and am enjoying the game. It is very engaging, even at the beginner levels.

So, um ... Expect short posts for the next few days. ^.^;;;

Tigger Bounces Back from Punching Accusation

(Another early pre-post due to earache, family visiting, and a possibly long day away from home. I know how you cannot live without your daily Roost rations! ~.^)

Bouncing BackBack on January 6th of this year, a beloved childhood icon was accused of pugilistic pawing of a 14-year-old boy in Disney World's MGM Studio Theme Park. The incident was captured on video and rocketed into the national spotlight on news stations, Internet sites, and blogs ... including mine.

Disney had suspended Michael J. Fedelem, the man inside the Tigger suit, pending an investigation of the incident by the Osceola County Sheriff's Department.

The investigation is done, and the State Attorney's Office in Orlando has decided that Tigger is not criminally liable for what occurred. No criminal charges will be filed against Fedelem. The DA stated to a local Orlando news station "The family didn't react like they wanted justice, they reacted like they wanted cash."

No word yet on whether Tigger can bounce back to work at Disney.

This makes me so happy to hear. Anyone who reviewed the video could plainly see Tigger was provoked or that the "head punch" was entirely unintentional. Score one for the Florida State Attorney's Office and the little guy!

Of course, this does not mean Jerry Monaco, Sr., the man who shot the video and whose son was involved, will not file a civil complaint against Tigger, or Disney. One source states "the Monaco family is asking for unspecified money damages from Disney." Previously I had felt any lawsuit filed by the Monaco's would win. Now, I'm not so certain. No clear word on whether any further legal action will be taken by the Monaco's ... other than to change their names for trying to weasel money out of a false accusation of a well-loved American icon. ~.^

The same source cited above, as well as two others, cite Disney's employee union representative Donna Lyne Dalton saying Jerry, Jr. was agitating Tigger by pulling the back of the costume and cutting off air supply and that restricted peripheral vision didn't allow him to see where his "paw" was going when he swung around. A transcript from an unedited and longer version of the video, shows Jerry, Sr. may have taunted Tigger a little and that both a woman and Jerry, Sr. told Jerry, Jr. to stop "crowding" Tigger. Another source claims "the full-length video shows Junior pulling on the Tigger costume's tail, thus blocking proper air flow" and " earlier in the clip, Senior is heard mocking the character, sarcastically apologising for supposedly sitting on its head."

We'll wait and see. When I find more out, it'll be posted.
